Project Description:

The brief requested for a heritage building older than 60 years on CUT premises to be converted to house a Maxillofacial Unit. The original old heritage building was already added onto in an incorrect fashion causing structural cracking and roof leakage. The concept was to replace the problematic roof completely supported on an independent steel structure and create breaks between the original old and the incorrect addition to eliminate structural cracking. The design is in contrast to the old building in a contemporary style suitably showcasing the high-tech unit it houses.  It would also rule out the need to alter the facades of the heritage building and increase the floor size.
